This book has been put together to give the reader, whether they are practising visual artists or just art enthusiasts, a closer, more personal view and hopefully a valuable insight into my evolving work as a watercolour artist.
I thought how useful it would be for me to look at past work that I had agonised over for more than 30 years, some good, some ok and some easily forgotten. Being a hoarder I had access to a lot of early work and so this book was written with over 100 images plus my thoughts, ideas and stories behind many of them.
Before I started putting this book together I asked myself what sort of art book would really interest me. I came up with a “luscious, can’t wait to see what’s on the next page” book. This was my aim with this book.
I hope that the reader enjoys my scrapbook of images. Putting all this together was quite a rollercoaster for me, relieving my youth, my early impressions and memories of work past and present.

One of the most delightful art books I have ever had. Mrs Trevena invites you to explore her world of artworks from her childhood pencil drawings to most recent works. The artist, in a very sincere manner, comments on her paintings, how they were created – you feel as if you are sitting at her studio having a cadual conversation with Shirley Trevena (which I have always been dreaming of). The language of the text is elaborated and is a pleasure to read.
Now, the quality of the paper and print is outstanding. The fabric hard cover of book is so pleasant to touch and there’s a gift reproduction of Fruit and Flowers Against a Blue Curtain by Shirley Trevena.
And of course, the paintings! Shirley Trevena has often mentioned the excitement she feels whenever she mixes watercolour on paper, “reds with pinks and blues with greens” and guess what? The very first moment I opened this book I felt I can share the similar feeling – the celebration of bright, rich, happy coulours and unexpected compositions. Each of the paintings by Shirley Trevena tells a story, makes you imagine, inspires you to create. Joy of life -this is what these paintings all have in common. A must-have book for your library.

Hello Vilte
Thank you so much for your appreciation of my book ‘Shirley Trevena Watercolours’. Your kind words did wonders for my ego and definitely recharged my batteries. I was particularly delighted that you noticed the trouble that went into choosing the paper and the fabric cover.
My best wishes to you
Shirley Trevena
