Shirley Trevena Watercolours

ShirleyTrevenaWatercolours

This book has been put together to give the reader, whether they are practising visual artists or just art enthusiasts, a closer, more personal view and hopefully a valuable insight into my evolving work as a watercolour artist.

I thought how useful it would be for me to look at past work that I had agonised over for more than 30 years, some good, some ok and some easily forgotten. Being a hoarder I had access to a lot of early work and so this book was written with over 100 images plus my thoughts, ideas and stories behind many of them.

Before I started putting this book together I asked myself what sort of art book would really interest me. I came up with a “luscious, can’t wait to see what’s on the next page” book. This was my aim with this book.

I hope that the reader enjoys my scrapbook of images. Putting all this together was quite a rollercoaster for me, relieving my youth, my early impressions and memories of work past and present.

    Hi Shirley
I have all your books. Is this the same version being offered here as the one available on the Amazon site Sept 15. The cover looks different and it is spiral bound. As I live in the US, I would rather wait and save the shipping charges if they are the same book. Thank you

    1. Hi Didi

Sorry that it has taken so long to reply but there has been some confusion over this. Apparently they did a deal with an American publisher to publish the book over in the US and that publisher changed to cover. It is however the same book, although with an inferior cover in our opinion (the original has a linen cover). Also we are now led to believe that the book isn’t spiral bound.

    Hi Shirley

Wonderful to know that another book is on its way. You say you have agonised over your work for more than 30 years; well I have been agonising for longer than that over a medium I seem to have a love/hate relationship with. But playing with watercolour continues to fascinate me.
Thank you for being such an inspirational painter.

  6. Hi Shirley,
I´m looking forward to receive your new book. I just love your watercolours, full of colour and they make me so happy.
I hope one day you´ll come to Portugal, to Lisbon, with such a special light and architecture, the south with magnificent fields or the north with beautiful houses ( mine amongst them…), and gardens.
To paint watercolours, for me, is so important as breathing. Especially flowers.
    Thank you

  15. Dear Shirley,
I just discovered your site yesterday.
    Quite amazing and beautiful.
I jrecently retired from teaching and
I have started experimenting with watercolor.
I have had no previous experience and would
like to know if you would initially recommend any
one of your books over another for me.
    Thank you so very much.

    1. Hi Patty

I think for someone starting that my first book ‘Taking Risks with watercolour’ would be best.
